How to Register for TCF Canada 2026 — 5 Steps from Test Centre to Results

TCF Canada is administered by France Éducation International. In Canada, registration goes through authorised test centres (mostly Alliance Française branches and partner universities). The full process — from picking a centre to receiving results — takes about 2-3 months. Plan to start at least 3 months before any submission deadline.

  1. Step 1: Pick a test centre (2-3 months ahead). Search the France Éducation International authorised centre directory for Canada. Verify the centre actually administers TCF Canada (some only run TCF Québec or TCF tout public). Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Calgary, and Ottawa all have authorised centres.
  2. Step 2: Create an account + upload ID (~30 min). Sign up on the chosen centre's website and upload a scan of your valid passport or government photo ID. The name on file must match what you bring on test day exactly.
  3. Step 3: Choose a date + pay online (~15 min). Pick an available exam slot (most centres run 1-2 sessions per month). Pay the fee online — typically CAD $390 (some centres $400+). You will receive a payment receipt and registration confirmation by email.
  4. Step 4: Pre-exam instructions (1-2 weeks before). The centre emails the exam location, arrival time (usually 30 min before start), required-items list, and exam-room rules. Read carefully — small details matter.
  5. Step 5: Test day + wait for results (4-6 weeks). Bring the original ID, arrive 30 minutes early. The exam runs about 2 hours 47 minutes (4 modules back-to-back). Electronic results (PDF) arrive by email in 4-6 weeks; paper certificates take longer.
