TCF Canada Test Day 2026 — 6 Steps from Doorstep to Final Module
TCF Canada test day runs about 2 hours 47 minutes total: 4 modules back-to-back with no full break. Arrive early, bring the right ID, and tackle each module in the official order. The 6 steps below cover the full journey from leaving home to handing in your last task.
Test day in 6 steps
- Step 1: Pre-departure check (1 hour before). Bring your valid passport or government photo ID (must match the registration name) and your registration confirmation email (digital or printed). Phones, electronics, notebooks, and paper materials are NOT allowed in the exam room — leave them in a locker or your car.
- Step 2: Arrive + check in (30 min before). Show up 30 minutes early. Late by 15+ minutes is usually a no-entry, no-refund. Staff verify your ID, take a photo, confirm your registration, and seat you.
- Step 3: Listening comprehension (35 min, 39 questions). First module. Audio plays once only — put on the headphones and start immediately. You cannot review previous questions; mark answers as you go.
- Step 4: Reading comprehension (60 min, 39 questions). Right after listening. You can skip and review questions, so do the certain ones first and circle back to the tricky ones. No calculator or scratch paper — everything happens on screen.
- Step 5: Written expression (60 min, 3 tasks). 3 writing tasks: short message (A2-B1), formal letter (B1-B2), argumentative essay (B2-C1). Suggested time split: 10 + 20 + 30 minutes. Logical structure beats vocabulary breadth — get the structure right first.
- Step 6: Oral expression (~12 min, 3 tasks). Final module, in person or via video link with an examiner. 3 tasks: guided interview (2 min), role-play (3.5 min), opinion expression (4.5 min, no prep time). No retries — speak in full sentences and stay on topic.
Once your speaking task ends, you're done — no extra paperwork. Electronic results (PDF) arrive by email in 4-6 weeks. Strategy details: study guides.
